Those 3 life points usually didn't matter much, but occasionally they make all the difference, especially when a deck finds itself in a position to do 14 or 17 damage all at once but can't do 20
The Pikachu Illustrator is the most famous example, valued in the tens of thousands
Most of these things are at least thirty years old and require forgers to get thousands of tiny details exactly right
The whitening on the back didn't help butcould have pulled off the 8 if the front didn't have surface issues
