You can get some thematic ones, like Gyre Sage in +1/+1 counter decks, but the combination of any color and hexproof makes this a reliable dork for any deck
Im pretty sure this would have been a little too strong in Standard if the goal was to assemble big mecha robots for 8 mana or more
If a double-faced card is cast as a spell, it's put on the stack with its front face up
it plays as a 2-mana 2/2 that makes subsequent creatures better or allows your 1-drops to hit even harder
That's quite the combination of cards, even if you're talking about 9 mana and then some for the whole package without affecting the board in the meantime
